Zantedeschia aethiopica, commonly known as calla lily or arum lily, is a rhizomatous perennial native to southern Africa. It produces elegant white trumpet-shaped flowers with a yellow spadix and thrives in moist, well-drained soil. While typically propagated from rhizomes, it can also be grown from seed with proper conditions.

Cover pots with plastic bag or use propagator to maintain moisture. Sow seeds on soil surface with light covering of compost, as light is beneficial to germination. Seeds are slow to germinate and can be erratic; germination takes 1-3 months. Seedlings should not reach flowering size for 2-3 years. Once seeds sprout, remove cover and provide 6-8 hours direct sunlight. Maintain moist but not soggy soil. Requires warm temperatures (70-75°F optimal) and bright, indirect light for seedling growth.
