Viola cornuta, commonly known as Horned Violet or Johnny Jump Up, is a tufted perennial native to the Pyrenees Mountains of Spain and France. This charming plant produces small, fragrant, pansy-like flowers with distinctive long spurs in spring and early summer. Seeds can be sown indoors in late winter or directly outdoors in spring and fall for reliable germination and bloom.

Tips
Seeds require darkness to germinate; cover completely with soil or vermiculite. Keep substrate moist but not waterlogged to prevent fungal issues. After cold stratification, seeds germinate rapidly at 22°C in darkness. Once seedlings emerge, remove cover immediately and provide bright light without direct sunlight. Use spray watering to avoid displacing tiny seeds. Thin seedlings to prevent overcrowding. Transplant when seedlings reach 5-10cm tall with first true leaves. Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming. In warm climates, provide afternoon shade to prevent heat stress.
