Vachellia farnesiana (L.) Wight & Arn., commonly known as sweet acacia or huisache, is a leguminous shrub or small tree native to southern North America. The species exhibits physical seed dormancy requiring scarification for successful germination.

Tips
Scarified seeds germinate more quickly and with greater total percent germination than non-scarified seeds. Visual selection of imbibed seeds after scarification improves germination rates. Seeds remain ungerminated until moisture conditions become conducive for germination. Warmer temperatures promote faster germination rates.
