Kellogg's Breakfast is a celebrated heirloom beefsteak tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) originating from West Virginia, known for its exceptionally large, orange fruits weighing 1-2 pounds with outstanding sweet flavor and low acid content. Seeds germinate readily in 5-14 days when provided warm, moist conditions and require no special pretreatment, making this variety straightforward for seed propagation. This indeterminate variety produces abundant yields and is prized for fresh eating and slicing.

Tips

Use a heating mat to maintain soil temperature at 75-80°F for optimal, rapid germination. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in sterile, well-draining seed-starting mix and keep soil moist but not waterlogged to prevent fungal diseases. Remove covers daily to reduce excess moisture and prevent damping-off. Provide grow lights 12-14 hours daily once seedlings emerge to prevent leggy growth. Use bottom watering to reduce damping-off risk. Thin to one seedling per cell when true leaves appear. Sow 2-3 seeds per cell and thin to the strongest seedling. Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date. Transplant into individual pots when seedlings develop their third set of leaves. Harden off seedlings 7-10 days before transplanting outdoors. Plant 2-3 feet apart in full sun.
