The Smoke Primer is a germination aid for fire-responsive fynbos species from the Cape Floristic Region of South Africa. Many fynbos seeds are dormant and require smoke chemicals to germinate, as naturally occurs after wildfires in their native habitat. This product contains fynbos-smoke-saturated paper impregnated with natural germination stimulators that enhance seed germination by an average of 100-200% compared to untreated seeds.
Before sowing
Use Smoke Seed Primer disc in warm water solution. This recreates conditions similar to the rainy season after a fire, mimicking the natural dormancy-breaking trigger for fynbos seeds.

What to expect
Tips
Keep substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged. Maintain temperatures with significant day-night fluctuation for best results. Use sterilized water or boiled-cooled water to prevent fungal pathogens. Provide good air circulation. Mist seedlings daily. Germination typically occurs 14-30 days after sowing. Sow in autumn or spring for best results. Handle tiny seedlings carefully when transplanting. Protect from heavy rain but ensure adequate humidity with 80-90% humidity levels. Ensure good drainage to prevent damping-off disease.
