How to germinate Phoenix dactylifera

Phoenix dactylifera (Date Palm) is a flowering palm native to the Middle East and North Africa, cultivated for millennia for its edible sweet dates. Seeds exhibit physiological dormancy due to hard seed coat structure requiring pre-treatments to enhance germination rates.

Tips

Fresh seeds germinate better than dried ones. Use normal water or sun-heated water soaking (84% success). Control had 68% germination, boiling water treatments achieved 100% at 42 days. Keep humidity 60-70%, avoid waterlogging. Filtered light preferred. Remote germinator - first leaf emerges 4-5 weeks after root emergence.
