Passiflora tripartita var. azuayensis, commonly known as banana passionfruit or mango passionfruit, is a vigorous tropical climbing vine native to the Andean highlands of Ecuador. This rare species produces distinctive three-parted leaves, striking pale pink flowers, and elongated yellow-orange fruits with sweet, aromatic pulp. Seed germination is moderately challenging due to the hard seed coat and natural dormancy, requiring warm temperatures and proper seed pretreatment for best results.

Tips
Use bottom heat (70-85°F) to accelerate germination to 1-2 weeks; without heat, germination can take 4-12 weeks. Maintain high humidity with a transparent lid. Provide bright light (avoid direct sunlight). Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Temperature stability is critical—avoid cold conditions which inhibit germination. Fresh seeds germinate faster than stored seeds. Young seedlings are frost-sensitive; maintain warm conditions (above 20°C) until established. Once seedlings develop 4-5 leaves, harden off gradually before transplanting. Fertilize established plants at least twice monthly during growing season.
