Luffa acutangula is a vigorous annual climbing vine native to South Asia, commonly grown for edible immature fruits and mature fruits used as natural sponges. Seeds have a very hard coat requiring pre-treatment for reliable germination.

Tips
Use a heat mat at 70-85°F (21-30°C) to accelerate germination. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged until sprouting. Use deep containers to accommodate developing taproot. Fresh seeds germinate better than old seeds (over 2 years). Seeds require warm soil temperature; growth stalls below 18°C (65°F). Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost in cooler zones.
