Lagerstroemia indica, commonly known as Crape Myrtle or Crepe Myrtle, is a deciduous flowering shrub or small tree native to subtropical Asia. Seeds have a short dormancy period that is easily broken through cold stratification, followed by warm temperatures for germination. This species is relatively easy to grow from seed and produces showy clusters of white, pink, red, or lavender flowers.

Tips
Soak seeds for 24 hours before stratification. Cold stratify for 30 days in the refrigerator in a sealed bag with slightly moist substrate. After stratification, sow seeds 1/16 inch deep, press soil gently, and lightly mulch. Keep substrate moist but not waterlogged. Germination occurs within 15-60 days at warm temperatures (70-77°F). Cover pots with plastic to retain humidity. Keep seedlings in partial shade until first true leaves emerge. Patience is important; avoid discarding trays if germination is slow. Optional: Mix seeds with dry sand before sowing to prevent clumping.
