Ipomoea lobata 'Exotic Love', also known as Firecracker Vine or Spanish Flag, is a vigorous annual climber native to Mexico and Brazil with deeply lobed, attractive foliage. It produces distinctive one-sided racemes of small tubular flowers that transition from scarlet red to orange, yellow, and cream-white, creating a striking gradient effect. Seeds have a tough coat and germinate best when scarified or soaked before sowing in warm conditions.

Tips
Soak seeds overnight in warm water or nick the seed coat before sowing to improve germination rates. Maintain consistent warmth of 70-75°F (21-24°C) for fastest sprouting. Do not sow too early in spring as plants will sulk in cold weather; sow indoors 5-6 weeks before last frost or directly outdoors when soil temperature exceeds 50°F (10°C). Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Once seedlings emerge, provide bright light immediately to prevent legginess. These vigorous vines require full sun (6+ hours daily) and benefit from support structures such as trellises or arbors. Space plants 10-18 inches apart. Use low-nitrogen fertilizer to encourage flowering over vegetative growth. Seeds do not require light to germinate, so can be started in a warm, dark location initially.
