Ensete lecongkietii, commonly known as Lecongkiet's Banana or Vietnamese Wild Banana, is a rare banana species recently discovered in Vietnam and northern Thailand. This monocarpic herbaceous plant produces seeds that require pre-treatment and warm conditions for germination. As a monocarpic species, propagation is exclusively by seed.
Before sowing
Seed freshness is the most critical factor for success; always use fresh seed
Sowing
What to expect
Tips
Place seed tray in warm, humid environment; keep substrate moist but not waterlogged to prevent rot; use bottom heat (heating mat) for significantly improved results; germination is notoriously erratic among Ensete species - seeds from same batch may germinate weeks or months apart; do not discard pots prematurely; provide bright indirect light once seedlings emerge
