Echinocactus grusonii, known as Golden Barrel Cactus, is a slow-growing barrel cactus endemic to east-central Mexico. Seeds are the primary propagation method. The species is critically endangered in the wild but widely cultivated as an ornamental plant.

Tips
Light aids germination. Use sealed baggy method to maintain high humidity and prevent damping off. Keep soil consistently moist but not wet. Seedlings are tiny and vulnerable; keep in humidity dome for first few months. Germination varies 1-6 weeks depending on conditions. After germination, remove covering gradually over 1-2 weeks to acclimate seedlings. Transplant seedlings once they develop tiny spines.
