Delonix elata is a deciduous tropical tree native to East Africa, characterized by its rounded spreading crown and drooping branches. Known as White Poinciana or Creamy Peacock Flower, it produces stunning white flowers with yellow centers and red stamens. The species has a hard seed coat requiring pre-treatment for successful germination.

Scarification
mecanica Gently nick or file the seed coat using sandpaper or small knife until inner layer is visible. Avoid scraping the pointed end where root emerges.

Soak

Hard seed coat inhibits germination. Seeds may swell and imbibe moisture after treatment; if not, make a small nick in seed coat and soak additional 12 hours.

Tips

Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Place in warm, bright location with indirect sunlight initially. Fresh seeds have higher germination rates. Once seedlings develop two sets of true leaves, transplant to individual pots. The tree requires full sun (6-8 hours daily) and well-draining soil in mature growth. Prefers hot and humid climates.
