Cupressus cashmeriana, commonly known as Bhutan Cypress or Kashmir Cypress, is an elegant evergreen conifer native to the eastern Himalayas with striking blue-green, pendulous foliage. Pre-soak seeds 24 hours in cool water, then stratify for 21-30 days at 4°C (refrigerator) with seeds kept moist. After stratification, bring seeds to room temperature (20-22°C) in bright light. Seeds require consistently moist (but not waterlogged) substrate and will not tolerate drying out. Germination can take 30-60 days and may be erratic; patience is essential and trays should not be discarded prematurely. Sow in spring for best results. Young seedlings are frost-sensitive and should be protected or grown indoors during their first winter. Maintain well-lit position out of direct sun during germination.
