Caesalpinia pulcherrima var. red, commonly known as Red Peacock Flower or Red Bird of Paradise, is a tropical ornamental shrub native to Mexico and Central America. The red variety displays stunning vibrant red-orange flowers with distinctive long red stamens. While seed germination can be erratic, proper scarification and warm temperatures (85°F/29°C recommended) significantly improve success rates.

Cover seeds with plastic wrap to retain heat and moisture until seedlings emerge. Once germinated, remove cover and provide bright light. Maintain consistent moisture but avoid waterlogging as it causes root rot. Scarified seeds can germinate in as little as 3-4 days under optimal warm conditions (80°F/27°C). Keep soil temperature warm—avoid cold conditions. Seedlings grow rapidly and are drought-tolerant. Allow soil to dry somewhat between waterings once established.
