Brugmansia, commonly called Angel's Trumpet, are tropical flowering shrubs native to South America and members of the Solanaceae family. These plants produce large, fragrant trumpet-shaped flowers and are highly toxic if ingested, particularly the seeds and leaves. Seeds germinate readily with proper warm conditions and light, making them easy to grow from seed despite their initially slow germination.

Before sowing

Scarification
agua_quente Soak seeds in warm water (not boiling, approximately 77-88°C/170-190°F) for 24 to 48 hours to soften the corky seed coat
Soak
24 h Soak seeds in warm water for 24 to 48 hours before sowing to promote water absorption. Optional peeling of corky outer coat can accelerate germination

Pre-soak seeds in warm water for 24-48 hours before sowing. This helps overcome dormancy and softens the protective corky covering

Tips

Press seeds lightly onto soil surface as they require light to germinate. Maintain soil temperature of 75-80°F (24-27°C) ideally, with bottom heat mats strongly recommended. Keep seedling mix moist but never waterlogged to prevent damping off. Provide grow lights or bright light for 14-18 hours daily. Cover trays with clear plastic to maintain humidity. Transplant when seedlings develop 2 sets of true leaves. Avoid overwatering and ensure excellent air circulation. Do not fertilize until seedlings have at least 4 true leaves; use dilute fertilizer (1/4 strength) initially.
