Banksia prionotes, commonly known as Acorn Banksia or Orange Banksia, is a native Australian shrub or tree from southwestern Western Australia that produces striking orange flower spikes. Seeds germinate readily within 14-40 days when maintained at optimal temperatures and respond well to Smoke Seed Primer treatment, which simulates the post-fire conditions these fire-adapted plants naturally require.

Seeds benefit from Smoke Seed Primer treatment. Use pink paper disc in small cup with rainwater or distilled water. Many Proteaceae family members are highly responsive to smoke treatment.

Tips
Keep container in bright light without direct sun exposure. Open lid every 2-3 days to check moisture and exchange air, preventing fungal issues. Use artificial lighting if needed (LED or fluorescent). Do not allow soil to become waterlogged; Banksia dislikes wet roots. Sow seeds flat at approximately 5mm depth. Transfer seedlings to individual pots once root reaches 1cm length. Avoid phosphorus-rich fertilizers as Proteaceae family plants are phosphorus-sensitive. Be patient with germination—some dormant seeds may take longer to respond.
