Aloe cameronii, commonly known as Red Aloe or Starfish Aloe, is a striking succulent native to Southern Africa with vibrant foliage that transforms from green to deep coppery-red under drought and sunlight. Seeds germinate readily within 2-4 weeks under warm conditions with bright light and well-draining soil. This easy-to-grow species is ideal for beginners and produces beautiful orange-red flowers in late fall to winter.

Tips

Maintain excellent drainage to prevent root rot; this is critical for seedlings. Cover pots with moist paper or plastic dome initially to retain moisture until germination occurs, then remove cover when green shoots appear. Provide bright light (15 hours daily if possible) to prevent etiolation. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged during germination; gradually reduce watering after sprouting. Once seedlings develop several leaves, gradually acclimate to sunlight. Transplant to individual containers when well-established. Avoid cold temperatures below 20°C during germination.
