Agave stricta var. rubra, commonly known as Red Hedgehog Agave, is a rosette-forming succulent native to the Tehuacan Valley of Mexico, selected for its distinctive reddish foliage that intensifies under stress. Seeds germinate readily at warm temperatures (minimum 18-25°C) without dormancy or special pre-treatment, making it an easy species for seed propagation. Moisture and bright, indirect light are essential for successful germination.

Press seeds into the surface or cover very lightly with a thin layer of fine gravel (no larger than 3mm). Keep substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged by covering the container with glass, plastic, or nylon during germination. Provide bright light without direct sunlight. Remove the cover after 2 weeks. Germination typically occurs within 4-21 days; if no germination after 3 weeks, seeds are unlikely to germinate. Once seedlings develop their first leaves, thin out any crowding with small tweezers. Avoid overwatering seedlings as damping-off can occur. Seeds must be fresh for highest viability.
